1995 Wines
We certainly don’t come along wines like this every day – Australian classics that stand the test of time. This MAGNUM of Howard Park is a perfect example of how good WA Cabernet blends can be – pretty, fragrant, cedary complex fruit finishing soft and subtle and still with some fine tannins to finish. Bid high on this as the competition will be tight.
If you like your Grange big and bold then 1995 is a vintage for you. This wine has the kind of concentration that only the the finest South Australian Shiraz can muster with layers of liquorice, blackcurrant, mocha oak and length to burn and that Penfolds class coming from every pore.

An iconic Barossan Shiraz, this is such a charismatic wine. The story here is all about the relationship between old school Barossa grapegrowers and suitably old school Barossan winemaking. The net result is a hearty, worthy, full flavoured of charm and depth. Icon wine indeed. Please note: **Like all our wines over 5 years of age, this bottle is sold as is. No returns or refunds accepted.**
A bright yellow/green colour with restrained cashew oak and lemon fruit aromas. The oak and fruit flavours combine perfectly to give a richly textured palate. Partial malolactic fermentation has increased the complexity.
A masterpiece from the Cote des Blancs in a mythical vintage. To the eye: A magnificent, luminous golden robe with primrose highlights, elaborated exclusively from Chardonnay grapes. A delicate, distinctive bubble, the result of more than 15 years of ageing in Gallo-Roman chalk quarries. To the nose: A strict selection of no more than 4 grands crus from the Cote des Blancs and one premier cru grants a unique nobility, elegance and generosity to this wine. The rich bouquet offers up aromas of dried and candied fruits such as hazelnuts, almonds and dates. The wine of an aesthete, with deep, heady notes of beeswax and nougat. On the palate: The year 1995 finds expression in this win...
"The colour is golden, bright and brilliant, with hues of lime green and verbena. This youthfulness is boosted by fine, bountiful effervescence, whose beads seem to bedeck the wine. The nose start mature, with an aroma of hazelnut and caramel, and leads us champagne lovers to a flower bouquet of gilly-flower, peonies, mock orange and honeysuckle. The elegance of the palate is set off by a creamy froth, revealing an aroma of liquorice and citrus fruit, passing by mint. But the maturity, expressed by spices, toast, or even mocha draws us into the whirl of complexity, and richness of the great cuvees. A ballet that leads us enthusiastically towards a long, fresh finish, ready for yet another...
Colour - Deep vibrant crimson with a hint of brick. Nose - Classic Cabernet Sauvignon characters of rich ripe cassis and plum with hints of chocolate and some developed savoury components of tobacco and spice. Palate - This wine is now displaying fine subtle flavours of dark berry fruits and chocolate with some secondary developed characters of tobacco and spice balanced with elegant tannins and a silky mouth feel.
The tenth anniversary release of Howard Park Riesling. Fortunately 1995 was a very strong year in Western Australia and the Great Southern in particular. The 1995 Riesling is typical of the region with all the limey and mineral characters in a very tight package of exceptional freshness now but with ample potential for future development. The first hints of tastiness are beginning to emerge giving a hint to future complexity. Sit on this one a while. Bright, very youthful green hues. Amazing youthfulness. Fresh primary zesty, toasty, bath salts, complex array of aromas. Bright fresh palate, youthful, tight structure, loads of acid but has fruit to support acid. Secondary toasty character...
Dense red-purple; the bouquet is rich, complex and concentrated, with luscious dark berry and dark chocolate fruit, followed by an equally rich and luscious palate, charged with blackberry, currant and chocolate fruit. Positive but balanced cedary oak adds lustre to a superb wine.
Light to medium red; a fragrant, light cherry and plum bouquet with a touch of toasty oak; the palate has good balance and length, with more of those cherry/strawberry fruit flavours. Rated highly because of its length and balance.
Medium red-purple; a vibrant and lively bouquet with complex cherry-accented fruit and obvious carbonic maceration spice influences. There is more of the same on the palate, with complex cherry and spice flavours, bright acidity and subtle oak
Medium red-purple; a typically stylish bouquet of medium to medium-full intensity, with a range of varietal aromas, though none are dominant. Both bouquet and palate show plums, dark berries and a touch of the forest, all still opening up. Oak is barely discernible.
Medium to full red-purple; there is a touch more new oak spice evident than in the varietal, with dark foresty overtones to intense fruit on the bouquet. There is another dimension of ripeness and intensity on the palate, with masses of black cherry, plum and spice; rounded and smooth, but not heavy. (Bottled January 1997.)
Medium to full red-purple; very concentrated, with similar foresty notes to the Premium, but even more oak showing shortly after bottling. The palate is neither richer nor heavier than the Premium, but has superb structure: silky, fine, long and complex. The cherry and plum fruit builds early, but carries right through to the back palate on a wine of outstanding length. (Bottled March 1997.)
Dense red-purple; the bouquet exudes gloriously dense chocolate and black cherry fruit, supported by excellent oak. The exotically concentrated and dense palate has outstanding texture and structure; ripe black cherry and chocolate flavours, subde but sweet oak and fine tannins complete a great wine.
Chablis comes to Macedon! This is a very tight, flinty, minerally chardonnay with high-acid austerity. There's a waft of sulfur to begin with, which doesn't mar it. It's tightly wound and delicate, is ageing slowly, and should live long. Drink it with oysters.
Strong purple-red; a complex array of aromas running through dark fruits, mint and vanilla, with the oak well balanced and integrated. A beautifully balanced and constructed wine, with intense fruit, well integrated oak and guaranteed to evolve superbly over the decades.
A pale foaming glass of this looks so appetising that you can't wait to sip. The bouquet is complex with glace fruit aromas, bready notes and a smoky savoury touch. In the mouth it has richness and depth yet retains great finesse. Some aged character adds dimension and it finishes clean and very long. A satisfying, complete sparkling wine of high quality.
Dense red-purple; a rich, concentrated and luscious bouquet with masses of black cherry and blackberry fruit backed with a touch of new oak. The palate is similarly concentrated and rich, with a nice touch of oak, an abundance of black chocolate and cherry fruit, finishing with good tannins. A special magnum bottling of which only 480 were produced, and obviously a special selection
