2005 Wines from Jansz

The Jansz style is very much one of complexity, structure and composure, aiming at a distinctive style of vintage sparkling. The yeast autolysis-derived complexity and patrial barrel-fermentation of the base wine has worked plenty of toasted nuts into the cool, citrusy fruits; hints of chalky minerals, light spices and dried spring flowers. Palate weight is one of the Jansz flagship's hallmarks: with really assertive, concentrated fruit flavours, layering up towards the finish, it winds out toasted hazelnuts and more chalky flavours as it fades.

The wine is a rosewater, pale pink, “partridge eye” colour with an intense, lifted nose, showing the power and elegance of Jansz Pinot Noir. The aromas are of rosewater, strawberries, sea spray and truffles; coupled with the yeast influence of toasted brioche and nougat. The palate displays a wonderfully complex sparkling wine in which full fruit flavours of turkish delight, rose petals and fresh strawberries are married with cream, truffles, spice and sea spray. The power of the Tasmanian fruit is balanced by mouth watering natural acidity delivering great structure, finesse and wonderful length. The wine is pale gold in colour with a very fine persistent bead. The nose is wonderfully complex; with lifted savoury notes of sea spray and lanolin, balanced with those of ripe lemons and delicate strawberries. The Five years of yeast aging has enriched the nose with aromas of brioche, shortbread and cream. The palate is balanced. It flaunts powerful yet elegant fruit flavours, showing honeysuckle, rose petals and strawberry juxtaposed with complex notes of oyster shell and truffle. The result is a layered and textural wine that can only be achieved through extended aging on yeast. The natural acidity typical of this vineyard provides elegance and longevity to this wine.
