2005 Wines from Wineries List: U
Colour: - A clear vibrant pale straw. Nose: - Intense, some herbaceous and green fruit notes. Honey bottle age characters, nice development which is typical of semillon. Palate: - The mouth feel is full and soft. Front mid back palate, good intensity. Semillon contributes texture, a little toastiness, stone fruit characters and showing benefits of short-term ageing while the Sauvignon Blanc exudes perfumes of exotic fruits. The wine has a crisp acid backbone with a fruity and textural finish. Oak is a submissive partner but gives definite backbone to the wine. Mouth watering citrus dominated palate with traces of nectarines, fig and honey melon fruit gently supported by vani...
Umamu is, we'll freely admit, an odd name for a winery. Very odd. This wine though is anything but odd, instead built in a style that is rather classical. Think cedary bottle aged goodness, fine tannins and a nicely resolved palate. It's quite sophisticated actually, a Margaret River red best drunk with something meaty.
Colour: A medium magenta plum hue, youthful. Nose: Fruit cake, chocolate, spicy cinnamon clove character. Warm smell. After minutes, it is chocolately and enticing to drink. Palate: Layers of sweet fruit, reminiscent spicy cake, smoky oak character, minerals and black berries make way to some firm yet supple tannins, which carry red fruit through onto the finish. Umamu Awards and Accolades Lovely subtle sweet dark fruit. Savoury minerality to balance the richness of fruit. Fine, fresh dry length.17/20, Julia Harding MW, Jancisrobinson.com
Typical Uleybury; massively dense and ripe; I can't cope with the alcohol, others can.
Good colour; savoury, very spicy red fruits and savoury, lemony tannins.
Cherry and raspberry fruit with balanced sweetness; a pretty wine.
Strong purple-red; a medium-bodied palate, with blackberry, plum and a mixture of chocolate and spice; ripe tannins are in balance, as is the oak; overall, supple mouthfeel.
Very well-made; whole bunch-pressed and new French oak fermentation; rich stone fruit and seamless oak; a mouthfilling, generous wine.
Medium to full-bodied blackberry, earth and spice; controlled tannins and good length. Top quality Swan Valley red.
Light straw-green; a particularly well-made and balanced wine given its Upper Swan Valley origin; nectarine, peach and a nice touch of acidity.
A quite complex bouquet, with a hint of spice; moderately rich palate, with subliminal sweetness.
