2006 Wines from Hugh Hamilton
Colour: 'The Rascal' has a luscious deep plum colour. Drink: You could cellar it for years if you like (until 2018), but this is one 'rascal' that can't wait to be liberated from the bottle. Go for it! Bouquet: 'The Rascal' is a wine with a heady cassis, black pepper and anise aroma. Palate: The tannins are velvety, integrated and balanced with the fruit. The wine was matured in French oak 225 litre barriques. It has a rich texture, ample body, some berry flavours, and a hint of pepper and spice. The seamless integration of the fruit and oak and its length on the palate make this a compelling red wine. Food Match: It's a great wine to accompany any full flavoured fare like Prime rib, ...
The nose shouts of apricots - quite confectionery-like and followed by a generous, silky-smooth palate thats quite sweet - but it works!
Goes close to the perfect midpoint between over-the-top oily flavour on the one hand, and anonymity on the other; stone fruit and apricot are precisely as they should be.
Sweet and sour cherry aromas and flavours do most of the talking; fine structure and balance. Sangiovese/ Merlot/ Tempranillo.
Huge, tarry, licoricey nose and intense palate loaded with spicy ripe fruit flavours and grippy tannins.
Strongly varietal, savoury and black fruits.
Clean, fresh, light nectarine and melon fruit; good length and balance; well above average.
Nicely evolving aromas reminiscent of black olives. Excellent intensity and length of varietal flavours, complemented by a good dose of charry oak. A keeper. 5+
Vibrant, ripe blackcurrant nose with coffee oak underneath. Seamless ripe, earthy/berry palate - thick and rich and sweet in the mouth.
Ripe blackberry, floral and lush and softly mouth filling.
Apricots, musk stick and ripe pear, typical of varietal.
A good example of the dusty, curranty, lean structure and savoury dried fruits and tannins of this variety.
More McLaren Vale than varietal with solid dark fruit, beetroot aromas and rich black fruit in a soft tannin style.
