2010 Wines from Goundrey
If one thing is going to hit your vinous G-spot, it’s the Goundrey G selection using selected fruit from the WA regions of Pemberton and Great Southern. Bedecked with bling, this wine has a trophy and a gold medal and attains that perfect balance of tropical fruit from Sauvignon Blanc and grassy citrus from the Semillon. It’s crisp and long with bags of flavour and has a refreshing length that makes it a proven partner with fresh seafood.
Brilliant white with a green tinge in colour, the bouquet shows lifted lychee, lemon, passionfruit and grassy notes. The palate shows bright citrus and tropical flavours with subtle grass and slatey mineral notes. The mouthfeel is textural and finishes crisply with mineral and citrus acidity. Very pale straw with youthful green tinges, this wine displays all the hallmarks of Sauvignon Blanc from the south west of Western Australia. Intense aromas of lemon zest, pineapple and passionfruit are balanced by hints of nettle and freshly cut hay. The palate is full and flavoursome with lemon citrus, gooseberry, green apple and passionfruit. Enjoy while youthful and fresh. Bright and vibrant, the wine is pale straw in colour with a green tinge. The wine displays aromas of fresh white peach, honey dew melon and tropical fruits. The palate is strongly fruit‐driven with flavours of fresh melon, lemon and guava with just a hint of grassiness. An underlying mineral characteristic and a fresh, natural crispness contribute to the appeal of this wine. Soft and supple generous proportioned cab merlot displaying lots of juicy ripe fleshy fruit. The red berry and fruit cake characters provide mid palate richness while the gentle hint of oak and light tannin structure are ideal for this style.
Quite herbal sauvignon blanc-like in character. Nice flavour balance and length, with good level of acidity and clean end.
Good colour; the bouquet has dark berry fruit, roast meat and oak aromas; the palate has a pleasing savoury, spicy grip to the dark fruits. Roast meat is a descriptor I used once in a blue moon. A great bargain.
