2011 Wines from First Creek Wines
You'd never pick this as First Creek's entry semillon from the name or the wine. It's a fragrant explosion of lemon blossom, kaffir lime, granny smith apple and pepper, with finely textured minerality.
The talented Liz Jackson is responsible for one of the semillons of the vintage - again. It is elevated above the pack thanks to a palate that ripples with fine minerality. Marksman accuracy of kaffir lime, anise and granny smith apples. Taut, pristine, fresh, energetic, perfumed. Pure magnificence!
There’s impressive concentration scaffolded into this ageworthy creation. A particularly deep and intense core of black plum and blackberry fruit manages to maintain a delightful, crunchy vibrancy. Dark chocolate oak is well balanced, carrying the fruit long into the finish, underlined by firm, fine tannins, built for the cellar.
A very savoury example of the variety from the Hunter, with charcuterie and grilled nuts sitting alongside nectarine and spice; the palate is surprisingly soft and approachable, but there is steel in the backbone, and the finish is long and satisfying; enjoy in the short to medium term.

Spicy, tropical fruit nose and lots of varietal fruit on a palate showing a light touch of grassy complexity.
