2004 Yarrabank Late Disgorged

This is blessed with Yarra Valley goodness at every turn, a sparking style to match the best of Champagne that has spent an amazing eight years resting in the bottle to ensure your first glass is full of joyous complexity. The quality and the price even matches the best of Champagne with its aromas of baked apples, brioche, grilled nuts and intense yeasty notes. The palate awakens the senses with a core of citrus, hints of pear and a chalky mineral edge. It finishes crisp and clean and would partner well with Gruyere based canapés.

2004 Yarra Burn Blanc de Blancs

Crystal clear with a fine persistent bead and pale straw hue, this sparkling wine exhibits lifted citrus and fresh brioche aromas. The cool climate Chardonnay displays exhilarating aromas of lemon blossom, juicy pear and subtle hints of cashews that build character and interest throughout the wine. The fresh natural acidity accentuates the elegant structure and creamy textured finish. Yarra Burn Wine Reviews and Accolades Gold Medal: 2010 Royal Perth Wine Show

2004 Yalumba The Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz

This is stately, noble red wine that deserves respect. It comes from one of the most lauded and awarded families in wine and shows off a blend that is uniquely Australian. It exudes a regionality that is unquestionably Barossa thanks to its bold signature of black fruits, spice and licorice. On the palate it’s like a cascading stream of black fruits with a firm tannin structure and notes of cedar and oak. A wine that drinks well on its own, but works even better with food. 2004 Yalumba D Cuvee Black Vintage

Does it get any more Australian than a classic vintage of Sparkling Shiraz from Yalumba? I think not. So grab a meat pie, chill this beauty down and soon enough you will have the perfect afternoon break. Full of dark blackberry flavour with a little aged complexity this is a wine made to please. And it aint too bad with some Christmas turkey too!

Attractive stone fruit/grapefruit flavours; crisp, dry finish.

Fine, aromatic black fruits, licorice and cracked pepper; a light- to medium-bodied wine with elegance, finesse, subtlety and balance

Intense cut-grass, herb, mineral and citrus aromas; the powerful palate is a replay; has attitude.

Light- to medium-bodied; but strongly varietal, showing all the best points of merlot; sweet redcurrant fruit with multi-spice and black olive nuances.

Highly aromatic, lively, citrussy bouquet; the palate kicks on in similar fashion; an exceptionally good example of Chardonnay/Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon.

Yeringberg are best known for their Cabernet but this young vine Shiraz is bloody brilliant value for money. Perfumed with spicy blackberry almost meaty fruit laced with lavender and other floral notes, it has superb interest and personality for a wine of this price and will improve over the next 5 years in the cellar

White pepper and exotic spice aromas, medium bodied with red and black fruits, with lovely berry spice flavours balance length and delicacy.

Yeringberg Pinot often has a Burgundian edge and this wine is no different showing delicate perfumed fruit backed by waves of earthy complexity. The palate has a beautiful texture and finishes smooth as silk.

Stony aromas of lime juice, lemon zest and honeysuckle overlie nuances of spices and minerals. Long and restrained, becoming more nutty and savoury towards the finish, it's generously proportioned as well as charmingly complex and elegant.

Super elegant, refined and balanced; melon, stone fruit and a hint of cashew, the oak a near-invisible web.

On tasting this wine last week I realised just how much I adore it. It is truly seamless, beginning with powerful yet refined cassis and cedar while the palate had layered fruit, measured alcohol coupled with a long and fine finish. It is a beautiful expression of Yarra Valley Cabernet and will drink well for 15 years.

We could drink a bucket of this. It's so soft and fleshy and fruit-sweet. Rich, melted chocolate aromas fill the glass. There are spices as well, and a hint of viognier apricot. The tannins are very gentle and the texture is a delight. But it also has length and substance, far from being just a fruit bomb. Serve with aged pecorino cheese.

Fresh, delicate mineral, herb and gooseberry mix; bright acidity on the finish.

Smooth simple and approachable, this lively young pinot marries vibrant raspberry, cherry and plum like fruit with regained cedar/vanilla oak and silky, sappy tannin. There's a hint of stewed fruit but plenty of confectionary brightness and a structured, savoury finish.

Bright, pale straw-green; floral spice and apple blossom aromas; crisp, pear, apple and citrus. Only 12.5° alcohol, yet all the flavour you could wish for. Very good example.
