Allan Scott Estate White Wines

Wine is a truly family affair for the Scott family who have been making wine in Marlborough since the early 90’s. Allan was responsible for planting some of the regions most famous vineyards, so it’s fair to say he knows a bit about tending vines and his son Josh is the winemaker who coaxes the best out of the fruit. Tropical as all get out, with grapefruit and a touch of regional herbaceousness on the nose, passionfruit dominates with notes of nettle then lovely balanced acids. It’s as bracing as a cold shower while being pelted by passion fruits.

The 2010 Allan Scott Sauvignon Blanc has an array of tropical flavours on the nose, with grapefruit and a slight herbaceousness tempered by a nice minerality. The tropical notes, particularly passionfruit follow through to the palate, a hint of nettles showing through, with slight gooseberry characters. All finished off with a good mid palate structure, nicely balanced natural acidity and excellent length. Serving Suggestions: Sauvignon Blanc can be enjoyed on many occasions: either on its own as an aperitif, or accompanied by seafood and salad dishes. Serve lightly chilled.

Light to medium yellow-green; the bouquet has attractive lime and toast fruit, with plenty of style. The palate is flavoursome with fresh lemony /lime juice fruit; good length and equally good balance.

Light to medium yellow-green; the bouquet is fragrant and clean, with gooseberry fruit aromas; the palate has excellent pungency with more gooseberry flavour; the crisp acidity gives a classic Sauvignon Blanc bite to the finish.

The 2008 vintage was pretty difficult for Marlborough and so you would normally find more positive flavours in the Allan Scott wines. However, this does have good fruit weight and some attractive appley characters

Light yellow-green; the bouquet is clean, but light and lacking the intensity of the best wines of the vintage; the palate, similarly, is clean, crisp and fresh, with just a touch of passionfruit and gentle acid on the finish. Easy drinking.

Light yellow-green; the bouquet is clean, but relatively closed; the palate has citrus and lime flavours braced by a touch of mineral; good length supported by a carefully judged touch (8.5 grams) of residual sugar which is all but undetectable.

Light to medium green-yellow; somewhat surprisingly, the bouquet is clean and tight, and the oak in balance with the fruit. The palate opens in similar fashion, but then the oak and mlf characters come through forcefully on the finish.

Light green-yellow; the bouquet is crisp, clean and minerally, with touches of herb and spice. The palate is near-dry, crisp, tight and refreshing.

Light green-yellow; the bouquet is spotlessly clean and quite delicate, with a mix of passionfruit and more minerally characters. The palate follows down the same track, perhaps more mineral than tropical, but with echoes of the passionfruit running through a long palate with pleasant grip on the finish.

Sauternes style, fermented in old French oak barriques and harbouring an advanced level of sweetness. Golden and fleshy, with a rich, oily texture and luscious, botrytised, apricot-like flavours.

Showing lemon and orange citrus tones and a distinct tropical pineapple aroma, while orange blossom, white stonefruit and spice characters abound. Continuing through to the palate these flavours and the spice complexities combine with the structural compounds of acid and phenolics, resulting in a mouth watering wine with a finish that lasts.

A fresh and invigorating aromatic mix of tropical passionfruit aromas with a hint of varietal herbaceous notes adding to the complexity of the nose. The palate is crisp and lively with a flavoursome arrat of tropical passionfruit and pineapple underpinned with zesty citrus acid giving this wine great mouthfeel and a well balanced refreshing finish

Finely balanced, citrusy, slightly biscuity wine with good depth of flavour. Fresh and crisp, with some elegance and complexity.

Crisp and flavoursome, in a moderately complex style with hints of apples, cheese and butterscotch.

From vines up to 30 years old, this wine was tank-fermented and matured for 10 months in seasoned oak barrels. Feshy, ripe style with good depth of tropical fruit flavours, slightly nutty and leesy notes adding complexity, and a tight, dry finish.

Fleshy, oak-aged style with soft, peachy, slightly spicy flavours, showing good varietal character, and a dryish finish.

Plenty of rich citrus here and into the melon territory; sweet spices and gentle biscuity complexity too. The palate's supple and even, with bright citrus, steely acid and a flurry of minerals to close.

Another of the complex barrel-fermented styles, this smells of lime juice, sweet herbs, pears and white peach with lemon curd, chalky minerals and spicy French oak. The palate's steely and focused in on citrus flavours - really piercing and long. Brilliant shape and drive.

A very composed, settled and concentrated nose: pears, nectarines and peaches, some stone fruits and musky florals too. The palate's smoothly honed and carries plenty of pear and nectarine flavour, subtly complex, with a cashew-nut twist through the finish.
