Established by Stuart Hooper in 1974, Bannockburn Vineyards is an iconic Australian producer home to some of the oldest vines in Geelong. Long-time winemaker Gary Farr left Bannockburn in 2005 having done much to put this producer on the map. Today larger than life figure Michael Glover is making some superb thoughtful styles that will only help to build on Bannockburn’s reputation.
Bannockburn Vineyards is based just outside of Bannockburn, around 25 kilometres north-west of Geelong in the heart of the Moorabool Valley. The region has a combination of low rainfall, poor soil fertility and strong winds that restrict vineyard yields, which certainly plays a part in the quality found in all the wines released under the Bannockburn label.
Stuart Hooper of Bannockburn Vineyards set out to create wine on par with the French greats, particularly those from the Burgundy region. Although he has since passed away, the Hooper family continues to instill Stuart’s unrelenting approach to quality throughout the winemaking process.
Wine Making: All wine is produced from estate grown fruit at Bannockburn Vineyards and in his own words, winemaker Michael Glover is committed to making wine that “accurately and sympathetically reflects our unique terrain”.
