The family owned Bowen Estate lies along famed strip of Coonawarra terra rossa soils in the South Easterly corner of South Australia.
Founded by Doug and Joy Bowen in 1972, on what was formerly a dairy farm, the first Bowen Estate wines were released from the 1975 vintage. More recently Doug has been assisted by his daughter Emma for both winemaking and managing the viticulture at Bowen Estate. The wines from this well regarded winery are classically restrained in style and pleasing to a loyal clientele.
Bowen Estate Winemaking
Producing fruit of optimal quality is paramount at Bowen Estate. All vines are hand pruned with an arch cane trellis system which ensures even budburst and balanced bunch exposure during ripening. This result is fruit filled wines lacking the common mintiness often seen in Coonawarra well balanced with soft, fine tannins. All wines are made on the property and sourced only from Estate vines.
Bowen Estate Wine Types
Bowden Estate produces a small range of Chardonnay, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon with additional smaller plantings of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The winery releases the vast majority of its wine under the Bowen Estate Label with their one single release of Ampelon Shiraz from the 1998 vintage the finest wine yet to emerge from this winery.
