Brand’s Laira dates back to 1893 when Captain Stentiford took up part of John Riccoch’s original Coonawarra fruit colony and named it ‘Laira’ after an old ship that was trading along Australian and New Zealand shores at the time.
Eric and Nancy Brand acquired Laira in 1950 and Brand’s Laira winery was established in 1966 as Coonawarra’s first small winemaker.
McWilliams Wines purchased the winery in 1994 and in honouring past tradition, continues to produce award-winning wines of excellence that punch well above their price point. Brands’s Laira is particularly renowned as being home to some of the Coonawarra region’s best shiraz plantings.
