Gary and Nick Farr are the father and son duo behind By Farr and Farr Rising in Geelong. As Winemakers and vignerons, the Farr’s established their latest venture in 1999, having over thirty years and sixty-two vintages between them. Prior to By Farr, Gary Farr was winemaker at Bannockburn, helping to put this iconic Australian winery on the international landscape.
Their collaboration on all things wine since 1999 has amounted to distinct winemaking styles that have received much acclaim, both within Australia and Internationally.
Philosophy: Gary and Nick Farr inject passion, persistence and patience into each of their wines and it shows with subtle and striking fruit characters that improve with time in the bottle. Of particular interest to Gary and Nick is creating wines that showcase the unique characters of the quality sites they have chosen.

Based on ancient river deposits, soils from the By Farr vineyards contain volcanic loam over limestone as well as other complex and mineral rich sediments. Well drained and for the most part, of low fertility, they are widely considered to be optimal sites for the production of fine quality Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

The By Farr range is produced solely from single vintage, Estate grown fruit. Farr Rising wines, however, are made from a combination of Estate grown and purchased fruit from the Moorabool Valley as well as Mornington Peninsula.
