Established and operated by Murray Smith in 1986, Canobolas-Smith remains a small family-owned company that prides itself on producing premium hand-made wines.
Canobolas Smith takes its name from its location on the northern slopes of Mount Canobolas in Orange, an ancient volcano and the highest mountain in New South Wales’s Central West region. For many years Canobolas Smith has been recognized as a leading producer of Orange Chardonnay and, while the wines are a little unusual by today’s standards, in the best vintages they can be quite remarkable and long loved.
Canobolas-Smith Philosophy
Winemaker and Viticulturist, Murray Smith adopts an artisan approach to winemaking with his greatest concern being careful treatment of the land, vines and the wines. Vines receive no irrigation with all picking and pruning is done by hand.
Canobolas-Smith Wine Types
Canobolas-Smith produces Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Chambourcin Shiraz, Merlot and Cabernet blends.
Canobolas-Smith Wine Range
Canobolas Smith features three distinct wine ranges: Blue Label, Strawhouse Label and Shine Label. Local artist Tim Winters has designed the artwork on each of the three range labels.

Medium yellow, bright: great colour for its age. Clean, fresh, herbal aromas. Shows some development, but without great complexity. Some alcohol heat on the nose and palate (it's 14%). Some apparent sweetness in the mid-palate, then a rather harsh...
Light yellow colour. Rich peachy, stone fruit, apricot aromas, some tropical notes, hints of pineapple. Lighter, leaner style and very delicate. Good, but perhaps not a great vintage. Sunshiney style.
