The carefully tended Cape Grace vineyard is positioned in Margaret River’s Willyabrup Valley and is operated by self-taught viticulturist Rober Karri-Davies and his wife Karen. The property has some wine-related history prior to the establishment of Cape Grace, being the original choice for Dr Tom Cullity to establish Vasse Felix. However the owners refused to sell and Tom set his eyes on a new site, also in Wilyabrup, on which Vassex Felix was founded in 1967. Close to 20 years later Robert and Karen acquired the property and planted the first vines.
With consultant winemaker Mark Messenger at the helm, Cape Grace has grown in stature since the first wines were released to be now considered one of newer breed of the local producers to watch with a particularly powerful and fruit forward style of wines.
Cape Grace History
On his quest to build Leeuwin lighthouse and establish the Margaret River Township, timber baron, MC Davies settled in Karridale and founded Cape Grace in 1875.
In 1996 and over a century later, Robert and Karen Karri-Davies planted their first grapes and embarked on a mission to create opulent, handcrafted wines. A long list of good ratings and awards have firmly positioned Cape Grace Wines as a premium brand, that is enjoyed by an array of wine lovers and critics alike.
Cape Grace Label
A frequent visitor at the estate, the Great Egret features on all Cape Grace wine labels.
