Cape Jaffa prides itself for being the first fully certified biodynamic vineyard at Mount Benson on South Australia’s Limestone Coast.
Established by the Hooper family in 1993, Cape Jaffa Wines stemmed from a love of food, wine and the great outdoors. The first vintage was released in 1995 and today is comprised of a range of cool climate, biodynamic wines including some relatively robust reds and delicate whites.
Cape Jaffa Philosophy
The Hooper’s are of the belief that the future of Cape Jaffa Wines revolves around adhering to sustainable practices today in the vineyard while aiming for carbon neutral status in the future. Composting, water management plans and wood and seed orchards have already been set up so as to minimize Cape Jaffa’s carbon footprint.
Cape Jaffa Biodynamic Winemaking
Biodynamic agriculture adopts a holistic approach to farming, placing great emphasis on maintaining harmony between the vineyard and its surrounds. Instead of synthesized herbicides, pesticides and fungicides, alternatives such as cow manure composts and milk whey are used at Cape Jaffa to stimulate the soil while vineyard operations are deliberately aligned with specific moon phases for the greatest impact.
Cape Jaffa Wine Range
Cape Jaffa encompasses three wine ranges: Cape Jaffa and La Lune, containing only estate-grown biodynamic fruit and Brocks Reef – combining vintage grown fruit with small parcels sourced from nearby premium vineyards along the Limestone Coast.
Cape Jaffa Wine Types
Wine varieties produced by Cape Jaffa include: Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Shiraz Viognier and Cabernet Merlot.
