Established in 1970 by Mark and David Hoehnen, Cape Mentelle was one of the first Margaret River wineries and helped to cement the region’s reputation as one of the world’s great areas for Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay.
Today Cape Mentelle is part of the Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessey Group and continues to serves as a benchmark for quality wine, especially local staples Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc, with some quality wines also seen from Shiraz, Sangiovese and Zinfandel. With winemaking now overseen by the highly capable Robert Mann, it appears Cape Mentelle is certainly in good hands.
Cape Mentelle Philosophy
In the words of winemaker, Robert Mann, “Cape Mentelle wines reflect the unique sense of place of Margaret River in their freshness, fruit purity and vibrancy of character.”
Cape Mentelle Region
Positioned in the southwest corner of Australia, the Margaret River is one of the world’s most remote wine regions. Surrounded by water on three sides, the climate is maritime, bringing mild temperatures and optimal vintage conditions.
Cape Mentelle Wines
With over 200 hectares of vines spread across four regional vineyards, Cape Mentelle produces: Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Zinfandel, Merlot and Cabernet blends.
