Chalk Hill in the McLaren Vale wine region reflects the Harvey family’s commitment to quality over six generations as wine growers. The original estate was planted in 1897 with some of these vines still bearing fruit to this day.
Now owned by John and Di Harvey, sons Jock and Tom currently manage the estate and enjoy ensuring that the wines retain the character and appeal that fans of Chalk Hill have enjoyed for decades.
Chalk Hill Philosophy
For the Harvey family, wine is much more than just a drink, “it is a reflection of our place and our life”. With talented winemaker Emmanuelle Requin-Bekkers now on board, Chalk Hill is closer than ever before to creating handcrafted wines of distinction.
Chalk Hill Vineyards
Chalk Hill Wines are sourced from six family-owned vineyards within the McLaren Vale wine-growing region. The original Chalk Hill Vineyard including century old Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon plantings as well as more recent additions including Sangiovese and Barbera.
Additional plantings of Viognier, Grenache, Chardonnay, Savignan and Nebbiolo are also planted in the remaining Long Gully, Slate Creek, Gateway, Wit’s End and Wrights Vineyards.
Chalk Hill Conservation
Committed to supporting local conservation initiatives, Chalk Hill has partnered with Greening Australia to ensure significant parcels of natural habitats within the McLaren Vale area are protected and restored. So much so that twenty-five cents from every Chalk Hill wine bottle sold is being put towards the reintroduction of native plant species in surrounding sites, which has seen previously ‘endangered’ animal species return to their original habitats.

Vermentino, to put it mildly, is so hot right now, the variety pushed forward in recent years to be the must-have white variety for many vineyards in warm regions. The appeal of course is just how crisp, grippy and weighty Vermentino can be, with ...
Sourced from some of the 20-40 year old Chalk Hill vines on the Chalk Hill block (I do wonder if there is chalk in the hill) this is a typically gutsy McLaren Vale Shiraz carrying the inky richness and weight of classic Vale form with a modicum of...
