Sourcing fruit from some of the older vines in the Margaret River region lends some gravitas to the Clairault brand. Original plantings date back to 1976, and the property is nestled in the prestige Wilyabrup sub-region of the Margaret River growing region. Set amongst a small native forest, the cellar door spruiks wines of definitive regionality, showing bright and clean fruit flavours with a focus on Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon wines.
Owned and operated by the Martin family Clairault has grown in recent times to be seen as a regional leader with value high from the bottom to the top of the range no doubt helped along by their use of sustainable practices in the vineyard since 2003. A 5-star rating from James Halliday is well deserved.
Clairault is located in the premier grape growing sub-region of Wilyabrup in Margaret River, occupying an estate and sourcing fruit from select vineyard sites.
Clairault Wine Types
Clairault focuses on classic Margaret River region varieties of Cabernet, Merlot, Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc but also produces wines from Riesling, Chardonnay and Shiraz.
The Clairault range is tiered into three levels of quality, ‘Estate’, ‘Range’ and ‘Cape’ delineating by estate fruit, barrel selection and site considerations.
Clairault is proud of its’ implementation of environmental safeguards for sustainability and the betterment of their vineyards. Current winemaker Will Shields shifted from Vasse Felix to take control of Clairault’s wine production. Premium wines have additional maceration on skins and are fermented in small open fermenters.
