One of the hero wineries in McLaren Vale for an unyielding love with unusual varieties, Coriole is a significant winery not only for its’ pioneering, but its consistency with its premium offerings. Coriole was established in 1967 but takes fruit from vines that date back to plantings in 1919. While Shiraz is known best from Coriole, they are trend-setters for working with Sangiovese, and in recent years Italian varieties Barbera, Nebbiolo and Fiano.
Mark Lloyd was a driving force for these expressive wines of European sensibility but has also made two of the region’s best-known cellar dwellers – the Mary Kathleen Cabernet Merlot and the Lloyd Reserve Shiraz, both known as wines of incredible structure and detail.
Coriole Winery
In a testimony to the sanctity of the vineyard, Coriole is currently in the process of moving its viticulture over to organic practices. Modern technique is employed in the winery with finished wines looking often very fresh and clean.
Coriole Wine Types
Coriole has a broad selection of varieties and blends including obscure varieties Fiano Barbera, Sagrantino, Nebbiolo and Chenin Blanc but also excels at noble varieties of Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sangiovese and Semillon/Sauvignon Blanc.

The Redstone in the label refers to the red coloured ironstone found in the soil at Coriole in the McLaren Vale, this stone is also part of the old brick buildings at the winery dating back to 1860. This is the essence of the region and the kind o...
Redstone is Coriole's cheaper Shiraz but there is no great loss of quality with this wine showing all the great McLaren Vale Shiraz can be. Big, bold and gutsy it demands attention. Delicious.
