Established in 1991 by the late Dr Brian Edwards and his wife Jenny, Edwards is now run by their sons Mike and Christo Edwards as winemaker and viticulturist respectively.
Edwards History
Brian Edwards himself was an interesting character whom famously flew from Binbrook airport in England to Kingsley Park, WA in a 1943 Tiger Moth. Edwards was undertaking this mission in a bid to replicate the journey of two of Australian flying pioneers in Bert Hinkler and Sir Charles Kingsford Smith, honouring also Brian's late father who was killed in WWII.
This aviation prerogative actually dictated the site of the Edwards vineyard, with Edwards choosing it based on the fact he could convert the back paddock to an airstrip.
From here the first plantings occurred in 1993, with a modest six acres of Semillon first established (which has since grown to 65 acres across five varieties).
More recently the success of the Edwards Vineyard has been driven by the two sons Mike and Christo, with Christo a trained horticulturist and now the viticulturist, and Mike the winemaker (after spending 4 years as assistant winemaker at Voyager Estate).
Edwards Wines
The focus of the Edwards range is on five varieties - Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet, Chardonnay and Merlot, with the main styles being several Semilon/Sauvignon Blanc blends, a straight shiraz and several Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Merlot blends. All of the wines are defined by their regional character and delineation.
