Elderton Estate Location and History
Elderton is located in the heart of South Australia’s famous Barossa Valley. Elderton’s first vineyards were planted in 1894 by Samuel Elderton Tolley. Neil and Lorraine Ashmead later purchased and founded the winery, which is now a small family run and operated estate. Elderton wines are recognised for producing some of Australia’s most highly regarded shiraz and cabernet sauvignon. The second generation of Ashmead family brothers, Cameron and Allister manage the winery today.
Elderton Estate Winemaking and Philosophy
Elderton’s winemaking philosophy is focused on producing premium wines with a high degree of attention to detail. One of the keys to their success is an ancient 72 acre Barossa Floor Vineyard, which produces fruit of the highest quality. They also source premium fruit from the Barossa and surrounding regions and use the best French and American oak. Elderton is passionate about producing wines that are balanced, varietally correct and classic in nature, while still possessing robust personalities. Winemaker Richard Langford aims to create world class wines that show a clear stamp of regionality. Elderton has been named in the Top 100 Wineries in the World by Wine and Spirit Magazine.
