Fermoy Estate Location and History
Fermoy is a boutique estate established in 1985 which is located in Western Australia’s beautiful Margaret River region. The property takes its name from the town of Fermoy, in county Cork, Ireland, which was founded by an ancestor of the winery’s original owners. Despite a history of little more than two decades, Fermoy Estate has won critical acclaim for wines which far outstrip its youth.
Fermoy Estate Winemaking
Winemakers Liz Dawson and Coralie Garnier ensure the Fermoy winery incorporates the latest technology, while incorporating traditional winemaking practices from the old world. 17 hectares are currently under vine with main varieties being Cabernet Sauvignon and Semillon with smaller parcels of Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Merlot, Chenin Blanc and Malbec. Grapes are handpicked only in the cool of the early morning and processed immediately to retain their freshness. The pristine natural environment allows grapes to grow relatively free from pests and diseases and viticulture is practiced with minimum interference. Thus Fermoy is able to create distinguished wines with exceptional natural purity and character.
