Established in 1997, Ferngrove has consistently produced wines of a high standard, preferring restraint over brash fruit flavour and a dedication to the delicate structures possible from the Frankland River region. Senior winemaker Kim Horton comes with a high pedigree, having worked with Houghton wines, Chestnut Grove and Leeuwin Estate before taking up the position with Ferngrove. In 2005 Kim was named Young Winemaker of the Year by Australian Wine Selectors.
Ferngrove Location
Ferngrove sources all of its fruit from two estate vineyards in the Frankland River region of Western Australia. The moderate to cool climate produces slower, evenly ripening fruit allowing for the production of premium wine.
Ferngrove Wine Types
Ferngrove produces a broad spectrum of wines focusing on noble varieties of Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Merlot and Chardonnay. Malbec and Viognier also appear in the wine range.
Ferngrove Brands
Symbols offers easy, early consumption wines made with greater commercial sensibility. Frankland River range is an elevation above Symbols, seeking further finesses and elegance. Orchid range utilises premium parcels of fruit and is the flagship range of Ferngrove. The Stirlings red wine is the marquee wine, produced as a pinnacle of winemaking and vineyard excellence.
Ferngrove Winery
Winemaking philosophy encourages innovative, modern technique and an understanding of Frankland River’s unique flavour profiles. Premium fruit and modern winemaking facilities are bound by a consistency that Kim Horton finds desirable.
