Fortified Wine Wines

1987 Seppeltsfield Para Vintage Tawny

Colour: Deep mahogany, with olive green yellow hints at the meniscus. Nose: Intense fresh lift of rancio aged characters generated as a result of 21 years maturation in small oak casks. The complexity is further enhanced by the distinctive Seppelt low strength fortifying spirit. Palate: The 1987 Barossa vintage was one that produced robust wines of great intensity and depth with fruit intensity that lingers even after 21 years in oak. The finish is full sweet and rich with great length and persistence yet finishing drier due to the spirit influence. The 1987 is true to the Para style and quality.

1988 Seppeltsfield Para Vintage Tawny

Colour: Medium deep tawny with obvious yellow green edges. Nose: Very vibrant and fresh with lifted wood aged characters. Shows clean vanillin oak, lovely integrated spirit, nuttiness and spicy Grenache fruit. Palate: Round and full with great age intensity that you would expect from a wine of 21 years. Tight nutty long finish which is well balanced. A finer more elegant vintage than some previous releases, showing the obvious influence of Grenache. Long clean finish with great length and intensity.

1989 Seppeltsfield Para Vintage Tawny

Colour: Amber with golden hues. Nose: A fresh aroma with nutty notes, redolent of butter biscuits and treacle. Subtle orange blossom and brown spice notes support the integrated, floral spirit to present a vibrant and lifted aroma. Palate: A fine, elegant example of the liqueur tawny port style. This wine has a creamy palate with lovely balance and a terrific clean finish.

2004 Stanton & Killeen Vintage Port

Is a Port still a Port? Not according to those in Portugal where the original fortified style comes from. This has meant a re-branding in the last couple of years for Port producers in Australia. Stanton and Killen continue to make fantastic fortifieds in the Victorian high country of Rutherglen. This rich interpretation shows blackberries and cherries with plums and hints of plum and pepper. It has a depth of tannins and a round structure that would make it perfect with a plate of cheese.

NV Grant Burge Age Unknown Liqueur Muscat

A luscious, complex wine with enormous depth of rich, powerful flavours. While the wine shows ample aged rancio characters, it is crucial that these characters don't dominate. Careful blending has ensured that they are balanced by fresh muscat fruit flavours to produce a wine that is sweet but finishes cleanly and without being at all cloying.

NV Seppeltsfield DP90 Rare Tawny

Colour: Medium Tawny with aged olive-green hues. Nose: The nose is fragrant and penetrating with a complex array of spice, walnuts, toffee, old leather and aged rancio framed by fine oak characters. Palate: The palate is built around finesse and complexity combined with great concentration of flavour. Initial flavours of raisin fruit and butterscotch build and evolve, offering hints of spice, walnuts and toffee on an incredibly long, dry finish.

NV Seppeltsfield Selma Melitta Rare Luscious

Colour: Medium to deep tawny with distinctive yellow green hue a true of the products age. Nose: A lovely combination of sweet, toffee, raisin fruit a complex nutty spice combined with obvious wood aged characters. Palate: Round soft and creamy front palate, clean tight and dry finish that island persistent.

2003 Barros Port Vintage Port

These wines always look much younger than they really are, and this 2003 vintage port is no different. It's got plenty of bright, dark fruits on the nose, together with some ginger and clove spice and nuttiness that is still shy on the nose. The palate is rich and medium-bodied with firm, tight tannins, a nice balance of sweetness and acid, and a dry, spicy, earthy finish. There's no hurry with this.

2003 Quinta Do Portal Late Bottle Vintage Port

This late-bottled vintage port is surpisingly quite a fruity little number. Fresh brambly fruit smells rise form the glass, together with some toast and licorice notes. The palate is full-bodied and lush with a smooth, fleshy mouthfeel, some grip to the tannins, and a bright, red fruited, warm finish courtesy of 20% alcohol. Try it with a dark chocolate tart, or a chunk of blue cheese.

2006 Barros Port Late Bottled Vintage Port

After spending a couple of years in barrel, this late bottled port has burst onto the scene at a great price. Hailing from the home of port, it shows some bright, ripe black fruits amongst the Christmas cake aromas, and on the palate it is very rich and sumptuous with some solid tannins, bright acidity, and a dry, savoury-edged finish. It would be excellent with a slice of choccy cake.

NV Gapsted Old Tawny Port

Colour: Pale Tawny. Nose: Rancio, Almonds and dried fruits. Palate: Soft and nutty with hints of spice and chocolate. Peak Drinking: Now - 2015. Food Matches: Dried figs, almonds and aged blue cheese.

NV Peter Lehmann Cellar Reserve Old Tawny

Denoting its exceptional age, the colour is a bright burnished copper, yet with a hint of green. This indicates that it is a blend of both red & white grapes. The base wine is from the original Hoffmann stocks and whose age was unknown. It shows beautifully lifted brandy spirit & rancio characters on the nose. The palate is deliciously nutty with soft buttery caramel and hints of vanilla bean. Rare Tawnies are traditionally sipped at the end of a fine meal. However, we like to chill ours occasionally & are happy to drink as an aperitif, or with a superb fruit cake for afternoon tea.

NV Seppeltsfield Vera Viola Oloroso

Colour: Deep amber-brown. Nose: The nose is lifted and complex with an array of raisin fruit, dried peel, hints of leather and nutty rancio. Palate: The palate is rich and profound with initial, nutty, honeyed sweetness evolving to highlight drier rancio characters, before an extremely long, dry finish.

2011 Port Phillip Estate Salasso Rose

Pink wines are so hot right now, which is kind of weird, considering they are meant to be served chilled. But temperatures aside we love this sensuous Pink from the team at Port Philip Estate. It’s European in style so you can expect a pale pink colour and ripe aromas of strawberries and cream before a fresh and flavour filled palate of apple and berries, a surprisingly good length and dry finish. It screams to be paired with food, especially something spicy.

NV Barros Port Tawny Port

This is the real deal fron Portugal, and if you haven't tried a port before, this is as gooder place to start as any. There's lots of dried fruits and spicy mince pies on the nose, whilst the palate is medium-sweet with raisin and mocha flavours, Soft tannins, and a smooth, spicy finish. It would be great with a sticky date pudding.

NV Chambers Rosewood Ruby

We love a port although the powers that be tell us we can’t call it Port anymore, only Port from Portugal is bestowed that honour which means this drop from Chambers is actually just known as Tawny. Either way it’s delicious and comes from one of the oldest fortified producing families in Australia. This is the perfect after dinner style Tawny imbued with nutty sweet raisined fruit and hints of caramel. It has a comforting warmth on the palate and real persistence. Try it with some mature cheese or a chocolate dessert.

NV Hardys Whiskers Blake Tawny Port

Colour: Tawny red with olive hues. Bouquet: Aged rich ripe fruit with chocolate, coffee and nutty aromas. Palate: Smooth and mellow with classic rancio characters, good length and a dry finish. Food: Mature cheeses. Dark chocolate.

NV Penfolds 'Club Reserve' Classic Tawny

Colour:Tawny red-brown. Nose:The nose is fragrant and well-integrated, possessing aromas of raisined fruit, caramel, subtle vanillin oak and nutty aged complexity. Palate:The palate has a luscious fruit sweetness balanced by drier barrel-matured characters and subtle spirit. The wine has rich flavours of spicy dried fruit, butterscotch and walnuts before a long, lingering finish.

NV Peter Lehmann Fino Sherry

A beautiful pale gold in colour, it has beautifully fresh yeasty and nutty aromas. The palate is dry and clean with a lingering, tantalising finish. Serve lightly chilled. It is a wonderful wine to sip with nuts whilst waiting for the meal to cook and perfect with tapas, and some suggest that it makes an excellent partner for sushi.
