Gemtree Vineyards Winery

Gemtree is a third generation family owned winery in the heart of McLaren Vale. Since 2008 the winery has operated using bio-dynamic practices ensuring immense quality of fruit, it’s no coincidence then that this quality was rewarded five stars by wine writer James Halliday in his annual wine guide. Winemaker Mike Brown is a passionate advocate for environmental practices in the vineyard including sustainable agriculture to produce the best results in all of the Gemtree wines.

Gemtree Location

Gemtree Vineyards can be found just 35 kilometres south of Adelaide in the heart of the McLaren Vale wine region. It’s considered one of the best regions in the world to grow grapes thanks to its ancient soils and Mediterranean climate plus cooling sea breezes from the nearby Gulf of St.Vincent. Soils in the area range from shallow red brown earths over limestone to deep fertile clay soils.

Gemtree Styles

Mike Brown’s approach to winemaking is as minimal as possible allowing the fruit to do the talking. Gemtree produce a vast array of wine styles including Chardonnay, Savagnin, Cadenzia (Grenache), Tempranillo and several interpretations of Shiraz.

Gemtree Brands

The Gemtree name encompasses all the releases and there are some interesting names in the mix including; the Phantom Petit Verdot, Bloodstone Shiraz, Citrine Chardonnay, Moonstone Savagnin and the Luna Roja Tempranillo.

Gemtree Winery

Gemtree Vineyards in McLaren Flat comprises 260 acres under vine planted with Chardonnay, Verdelho, Riesling, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo, Petit Verdot and Sangiovese. Working in tandem with the viticulturalist throughout the seasons is of critical importance and minimal intervention is integral to show how the wines express the region in every glass. A cellar door experience is a must as Gemtree share the space with fellow winery Dowie Doole. The cellar door adjoins the famed Sallopian Inn, one of the finest restaurants in the Vale.
