Giesen Wine Estate Wines

2011 Giesen Estate Marlborough Pinot Gris

The Giesen brand has become synonymous with quality Kiwi wines and they were one of the first to plant Sauvignon Blanc in the early 80’s. Here they turn their hand at Pinot Gris and with startling results, showing fruit elegance and balance. Made in the fuller style with varietal notes of pears, subtle spice and creamy vanilla. It’s floral and glossy with apple flavours and is a delicious lunchtime wine.

2011 Giesen Estate Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc

Giesen remains one of the biggest success stories of Marlborough, and their Sauvignon Blanc is one of the most famous brand names to come out of the New Zealand wine industry. The key to their success is by making wines that hold enormous appeal with consumers and this Sauvignon Blanc is such a great example. On the nose you’ll find lifted gooseberry, green herbs and hints of pea pod. Precise flavours of citrus, with a burst of sweetness and a crisp, acid finish.

2009 Giesen The August Sauvignon Blanc

While retaining a base of varietal sauvignon blanc character, this blend is a richer expression. Concentrated aroma and complexity is derived from a combination of low yielding vines, barrel fermentation with wild yeast and extended maturation on lees. The palate has a purity of flavour and structure achieved by whole bunch pressing which enhances the flavour profile and retains a lovely acidity. To this, extra textural and secondary flavour and length are added by extended time on yeast lees and the use of seasoned French oak barrels. Giesen Awards & Accolades Gold - Marlborough Wine Show, 2011

2009 Giesen The Brothers Chardonnay

Medium straw in colour. The aroma is full of citrus fruit and dry spice – nutmeg and cinnamon, with an oak derived toasted almond aroma. The palate is big, dry with a tight acidity and good length and persistent flavour. There is a surprisingly luscious element to the palate but the acid lets it float surreally like a star wars hovercraft. Like the Wairau Valley it is luscious up front and tight and long up the back. This is all held together by textural phenolics and oak structure.

Giesen Wine Estate Wines

Medium yellow-green; the bouquet is rich with nutty, malty, honeyed aromas, showing less high toast oak than the Canterbury Reserve. The palate is smooth, with ripe fig and peach fruit seamlessly married with high-quality oak. A feature of the wine is its great length.
