Glaetzer Wines
The Glaetzer family first settled in the Barossa Valley in 1888 after emigrating from Brandenburg, Germany. They begin a new life in Australia based at Nuriootpa in the Barossa Valley. The Glaetzer family are some of the earliest recorded viticulturalists in the region. They have gone on to help shape the future of Australian wine. Winemaking patriarch Colin Glaetzer established Glaetzer wines as his own label to create limited quantities of benchmark Barossa Valley reds.
Glaetzer Wines Philosphy and Winemaking
The birth of Glaetzer wines signalled a new era for the family. The next generation is firmly entrenched in the family wine business and Ben Glaetzer has become recognized as one of the country’s top winemakers in his own right. Colin and Ben Glaetzer share a common philosophy and conviction that great wines are made in the vineyard. They make unique, elegant wines with minimal intervention from the exceptional old vine fruit of loyal third and fourth generation growers. Their belief in the local terroir and understanding of ancient dry grown vines of the Barossa Valley is powerfully evident. The flagship Glaetzer Amon Ra is regarded as a classic Barossa Valley shiraz.
