What will the Marlborough of the future look like? You’re looking at it. Kevin Judd was ahead of his time at Cloudy Bay in putting New Zealand on the wine map. Now in Greywacke he’s again setting the pace for the Marlborough of the future. This is a sauvignon of great intrigue, focus, craftsmanship and restraint (and how often do we hear those words of Marlborough?). Pear, apple, guava and passionfruit show honed linearity, while still fleshy and persistent.

This is a very polished wine, with smooth dark-cherry fruit aromas on the nose, fine dark chocolate, fresh, toasty oak and a whole barrage of hard brown spice complexity. The palate's beautifully precise and focused: acidity sits neatly inside fine, even tannins and holds ripe and dark cherry-fruit flavour in the saddle long through the finish. Beautifully delivered wine.

Old barrel fermentation and lees aging complement a textural, rounded, complex and softly sweet riesling of creamy custard apple, baked peach , wild honey and mixed spice flavour.

Right from the get-go, this sets itself apart from the rest of the pack with a level of polish, complexity and balance. The nose has ripe peach and mango fruits; gentle savoury, yeasty complexity adds biscuity aromas too. The palate has an immediate sense of concentration and the textural richness builds in smooth layers; there's pear and nectarine, and a juicy, precise finish.

The nose has impressive complex, flinty elements; cleverly derived fermentation elements combine with exotic ripe gooseberry and lime fruits.
