First established in 1981 by the Haselgrove family, Haselgrove has recently reinvented itself under the ownership of four passionate Italian Australian friends - including former Bushing King and McLaren Vale wine identity Steve Maglieri.
Haselgrove Vineyards
The core of the Haselgrove operation is the (up to 60yr old) McLaren vale vineyards surrounding the winery, with fruit supplemented from other vineyards around the Vale, up into the Adelaide Hills and also from Coonawarra (actually the Haselgrove website gives excellent information about their vineyard sources, which is great to see).
Haselgrove Winemaking
The emphasis at Haselgrove is on small batch winemaking, with the winery specifically setup to allow for small parcels, allowing them to be kept separate and then judiciously blended. The winemaking itself is covered by former 'Young Winemaker of the Year' finalist Greg Clack along with Matt Copping. At this stage the winemaking style is very much in the thick and rich McLaren Vale style but the emphasis in more recent vintages has been to pull everything back to something more elegant and savoury.
Haselgrove Wine Types
The Haselgrove wine range is quintessentially McLaren Vale in origin, though with plenty of labels to choose from it is not purely all about Shiraz. Wine Types include a Semillon/Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, a Cabernet Merlot and a rather special sparkling Shiraz.
Haselgrove Show Success
In 2010 the Haselgrove 'Bella Vigna' Shiraz 2008 picked up the Trophy for Best McLaren Vale Shiraz at the International Wine Challenge, one of the largest wine competitions on the planet!

Brilliant very pale straw yellow. Lifted aromas of figs and tropical fruits combine with lime, fresh peach and apricot. An upfront palate of peaches, honey dew melon and fresh apricot which finishes with a hint of residual fruit sweetness.
Our Sauvignon Blanc is lively and balanced, exhibiting characteristics of fresh passionfruit, tropical fruits, and a hint of freshly cut grass.
