Established in 1998 in the Padthaway region of South Australia, the first vines were planted at Henry's Drive in 1992 by the local Longbottom Family, who still own and operate the winery. It is named after a nineteenth century postal coach driver, Henry John Hill, who operated the mail service that ran through the property. This postal theme is continued in the wine range with labels such as Dead Letter Office and Pillar Box Red.
Winemaking is a female affair with Renae Hirsch at the helm. Renae had made wines for more than 10 years in countries like France, Germany and the USA before joining Henry’s Drive. She is supported by consultant winemaker Kim Jackson, who shares Renae’s passion for making wines that express their Padthaway roots.
The fruit is sourced from 250 acres of vines the Longbottom family owns in Padthaway, and another 30 acres planted in McLaren Vale. The varietals used to make the wines are Verdelho, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Shiraz, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
