Hunter's is the dream of Ernie and Jane Hunter, with the winery itself setup some 30 years ago, making it one of the pioneers of Marlborough wine.
Hunters history
Irishman Ernie Hunter first arrived in Marlborough 30 years ago, at which time Marlborough wasn't even considered to be a viable wine region. Ernie then purchased some farming land around Blenheim and planted it to vines, with the first vintage thus being the '82, which went on to win six medals at the National Wine Show. The big scoop came for Hunter's in 1986 when it stunned the wine world by pulling a surprise win at the UK's Sunday Times Vintage Festival with an oak aged Sauvignon Blanc. Considerable press followed, with a Hunter's Chardonnay then making Decanter's Best Wines List.
Unfortunately Ernie was killed in a motoring accident 5 years later, with Jane then taking over the reins and propelling the business forward. Fast forward 30 years and Hunter's is now one of the only pioneer Marlborough wineries still in the original family hands.
Hunter's Wine Types
The Hunter's range is a varied one, kicking off with the most unusual Breidecker, which is an unusual variety that is really only seen in a handful of NZ wineries. The range also includes Chardonnay, Gewurtztraminer, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Rosé, Pinot Noir, Merlot and an unusual Pinot Merlot blend known as 'The Chase'. The wineries most famous product though is the Mirumiru sparklling.| Wine Region | Marlborough, New Zealand |

A rich rounded wine with plenty of white stonefruit characters of peach and nectarine. This fruit is further enhanced by the natural acidity and is balanced by the use of french oak to provide a fresh lingering finish.
Rich ripe plum, berry and subtle forest floor aromas marry together for a smooth medium bodied Pinot Noir. The palate shows persistent rich cherry/plum flavours and mild spicy oak making an enjoyable and easy drinking wine.
Lychee, peach and guava are the predominant aromas that make up this appealing gewürztraminer. Cinnamon spice and Turkish delight characteristics compliment these aromas to form a highly aromatic flavoursome wine with a lingering palate.
