Based in the Wairau Valley, Marlborough, Isabel Estate’s aim is to produce exceptional wines from their estate owned vineyards. Their belief is to make "inspired wines that are a strong expression of the individual style and character as determined by the vineyard soil and site". Established in 1982 it was the vision of ex pilot Michael Tiller who was using his estate to sell fruit as a contractor but realised the next step was to make quality wines under the Isabel Estate name thanks to their unique position and quality of the soil.
Isabel Estate Location
Marlborough is at the top of the South Island of New Zealand and the Wairau Valley is an area famed for its suitability for grape growing. Vines enjoy extended sunshine hours combined with a cool growing season plus sunny and mild autumn weather to ensure maximised flavour development in the grapes.
Isabel Estate Brands
Isabel Estate has some of the oldest vines in Marlborough producing exceptional quality grapes and wines from: Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Riesling. Yields are restricted by pruning vigourously to encourage low bud numbers while shoot and bud thinning optimises fruit quality.
Isabel Estate Winery
The modern winery is in the heart of the vineyard and relies on a mixture of modern and traditional winemaking methods. French oak barriques are used for extended maturation rather than for flavour, allowing the fruit to tell its story. Quality control in the vineyard and careful fruit selection ensures that every wine released under The Isabel Estate name is of outstanding quality and character.
