Padthaway Estate is an old world homestead that sits on 110 hectares in the Padthaway region of South Australia. The original homestead was built in 1847, and today it provides a luxury accommodation option for tourists. The wine business was established in 1980 and was the only working winery in Padthaway for many years.
The Wines
Winemaker Ulrich Grey-Smith’s specialty is sparkling wine. He has a winery set up specifically for sparkling production in the original 1880s wool shed, which interestingly houses the only Champagne basket press in Australia. In addition to the sparkling wines, Ulrich also crafts table wines from Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon from fruit grown in Padthaway, Robe and the Limestone Coast.
