Philip Shaw Wines are all estate grown and sourced from their 47 hectare Koomooloo vineyard site in Orange. Shaw is a highly experienced winemaker who has drawn upon his years of industry experience to refine his wines, seeking supple textures, elegance and what he calls ‘a marriage between the vineyard and the winemaking’. The site was established in 1988, and Shaw, the former chief winemaker for Rosemount Estate and then Southcorp Wines, has pursued his family dream.

Philip Shaw Wines vineyard is located in Orange in New South Wales, and is planted at a very high 900 metres above sea level, in one of Australia’s coolest wine growing sites. Soil is red loam over limestone, and the site was carefully selected by highly regarded wine maker and industry legend, Philip Shaw, himself.
Philip Shaw Wine Styles
Philip Shaw selected specific varieties that he thought most suited the Orange region – Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Shiraz make up the core of the production. Wines are very much created with ‘European styling’, showing restraint, complexity and finesse.

The range is separated into ‘the Number Series’, indicating premium wines, numbered for their significance, and ‘the Character Series’ the more accessible layer in the Philip Shaw wine range. WINERY – Hand pruning, leaf plucking, shoot thinning and crop thinning are all indications of the meticulous, hands-on approach to wine making, which in turn is reflected in the considered, detailed actions in the winery.
