READ ABOUT Ravensworth Winery...

The project of renowned Canberra winemaker Bryan Martin (whom also works with Tim Kirk at Clonakilla), Ravensworth has already garnered a reputation for fine wines produced from the Rhone varietals (Shiraz, Marsanne, Viognier), Sangiovese and Riesling.

Ravensworth Vineyard

First planted in 1998, with followup plantings in 2001, the 7ha Ravensworth vineyard is planted to Shiraz, Viognier, Sangiovese, Marsanne, Riesling, Cab blend and Sauvignon Blanc. The Ravensworth focus though is on super premium Shiraz, with over a third of the vineyards now planted to various clones of this variety (PT23, 1127 & Best's old block).

Situated in Murrambateman, the vineyard is planted on the rich volcanic soils of the region: Friable clay loams over decomposing granites. This soil profile has good water holding capacity and is well drained and oxygen rich, which is ideally suited to premium grape growing, particularly full bodied wines like Shiraz and Marsanne.

About Murrumbateman

Murrumbateman has a Mediterraneanish climate of wet winter/spring, dry summer/autumn and an elevation of over 650m above sea level, giving persistent cool nights (and plenty of cool days too), a combination that results in - ultimately - excellent conditions for growing grapes.

Ravensworth Winemaking

Bryan is both the vineyard manager and the winemaker, counting qualifications in winegrowing and winemaking to his name. His winemaking utilises small batch production, natural fermentation, high quality French coopered oak and careful blending to craft some delicious full flavoured cool climate wines of the highest quality.

Ravensworth Wine Types

The Ravensworth flagship is undoubtedly the Shiraz Viognier (which is of little surprise given that Bryan helps out at Clonakilla), with the range also including Marsanne, Sangiovese, Viognier and Riesling
