Saint Clair Estate Wines

Saint Clair has quickly garnered for themselves a reputation for producing truly great wines that are quintessential expressions of Marlborough. This is a single vineyard savvy of intensity that is lifted with grapefruit and citrus. The palate delivers an enormous tang of grapefruit and a tantalising mineral edge before a rush of clean yet precise acids on the finish. It deserves to be served with the freshest of seafood.

In just a short time Saint Clair have gone from grape growers to winemakers and are now at the very highest echelon of winemaking in Marlborough. Pinot from the region is now starting to receive international acclaim and we think this is sensational. Wonderful lifted aromatics of red berries, spice and earth before a carefully woven palate of cherry, soft tannin and balanced acids make for a persistent and balanced finish.

Saint Clair have only been around since 1994 but in that short space of time they have won more awards for their Sauvignon Blanc than perhaps any other winery in the world. You could say they make the worlds best Savvy. Now we have your attention this is serious stuff and the Block 6 has been named the Oh block because at first sniff you’ll be going: “oh what amazing flavours.” It’s concentrated with flavours of passionfruit, blackcurrant and grapefruit before delivering a pungent punch to the palate with fruit and mineral intensity. It’s a long concentrated mouthful with clean acids and lingering finish. Match with seafood for best results.

Colour: Bright ruby red Aroma: Raspberry and plum complemented by lifted floral hints and a touch of spice. Palate: A luscious and elegant full palate with flavours of red cherry, raspberries and ripe red plums. Aging in French oak barrels has added a rich complex toasty finish. Food Match: This Pioneer Block Pinot Noir is perfectly matched with spring lamb or tuna.

Light to medium yellow-green; the complex, creamy, nutty bouquet has a real touch of elegance, elegance which carries through onto the palate where lively melon fruit is woven through gently spicy oak; long finish.

Light green-yellow; a gloriously intense bouquet with Germanic lime juice aromas. The palate is equally intense, with superb lime juice flavours and great balance. Desperately unlucky not to win a gold medal at the Royal Easter Wine Show 2000; it certainly did on my score sheet.

Very fine, elegant wine with lovely structure and balance and smelling of roasted nuts mixed with stone-fruits. Excellent palate with persistent flavours of stone-fruits and great use of oak. 3-5

Lovely, densely packed, flowing red that leapt straight to a five-star score from all judges. Deeply coloured, very generous and supple, in a powerful style with rich, plummy, spicy fruit that has easily lapped up its strong oak influence (French, 62% new). ÒPeacock tail finish,Ó wrote one judge.

Sweet summer berry aromas lift off the nose and there's a good layering of sweet varietal fruit and wel-handled oak on the palate.

Medium yellow-green; the fruit aromas are quite exotic, guava-like, with the oak well integrated. A very interesting wine, rippling with flavours on the palate, sweet but not heavy.

Very good purple-red; the bouquet is quite intense, with sweet, juicy berry fruit aromas. The palate is fine and lively, with spicy savoury fruit, crisp acidity and just the barest flick of oak.
