Schild Estate is committed to translating the unique tapestry of the vineyard into wines that speak of honesty and drinkability. Second and third generation vignerons continue working side by side today to solidify the estate’s early reputation.
The Schild Estate philosophy combines minimal handling with meticulous viticulture and winemaking practices to ensure each wine reflects its origins. Schild Estate wines are largely an expression of the southern Barossa district. Individual parcels of fruit are carefully selected for exceptional quality and finesse. The Schild Estate range is spearheaded by their iconic Moorooroo Shiraz. It demonstrates regional integrity and serves to illustrate the winery’s growing reputation.
Schild Estate Location & History
The Schild family has a long history in the Barossa Valley. Ben Schild purchased the Three Springs Farm property in Rowland Flat in 1952. He transformed the land into a mixed farm with a focus on sustainable viticulture.
Schild Estate is home to some of the oldest vineyards in Australia, including the famous Moorooroo site planted in 1847 by William and John Jacob. In 1956, Ben’s son Ed Schild took over the running of the family property at the tender age of 16. With a keen eye for premium Barossa vineyards and careful management, the estate grew to over 400 acres. Recent vineyard sites have been established predominantly in the cool, southern end of the Barossa near Lyndoch.
