2010 Staete Landt Annabel Sauvignon Blanc

It’s become so popular these days that it’s just known as Savvy B. We can thank the Kiwis for the full power of the Savalaunch but who are we to knock a style everyone loves? This is Sauvignon Blanc for grown ups, intense and aromatic with tropical fruit and citrus peel. An amazing texture continues showing both a slatey mineral aspect and flavours of fresh apple and nectarine. This is a rare example of a Sauvignon Blanc that can be kept in the cellar for a few years so it gains complexity.

2008 Staete Landt Estate Grown Pinot Noir

If you are a lover of Pinot you won’t need to read this tasting note. We know you are already hooked. That’s the thing about this seductive variety, once you start finding out about the magic it will consume you and your bank balance. Thankfully this will not hurt said balance too much and the bank manager should not deny you the pleasure of this single vineyard wine from Marlborough. It’s lifted with cherries and violets and has an essential core of Pinosity with a weighty fruit palate that’s savoury and full of soft tannins. A guaranteed duck-magnet.

2008 Staete Landt Estate Grown Syrah

You can bet your bottom dollar that a producer who calls his Shiraz Syrah is damn serious about what’s in the bottle. Generally by using the French word Syrah for Shiraz, means it’s made in the old world style. The wine is completely expressive of place thanks to the stony soils that inhabit the vineyard. It shows black fruits and white pepper as well as licorice before a well- balanced and structured palate with elegantly woven tannins.

2009 Staete Landt Estate Grown Chardonnay

Although there are plenty of Chardonnay’s that warrant our attention in Australia, the quality of Kiwi Chardy has come of age. The Staete Landt range are single vineyard wines that really grab your attention with elegance and restraint. It’s full of stonefruit and grilled nut aromas with subtle mealey notes. The palate is textured and round with gentle creaminess and generous natural acids. It’s long on the finish with a flavour profile that makes it similar to the great wines of Burgundy.

2010 Staete Landt Estate Grown Pinot Gris

If you think the name of this wine is double dutch you’d not be far wrong as Staete Landt was the name Abel Tasman gave New Zealand back in 1642. The wines grown on the property in Marlborough come from an area called the Golden Mile where some of Marlborough’s oldest vines are grown. Pinot Gris like this could just be the next big thing if the demand for Sauvignon Blanc ever drops. Full and round it shows pear and quince characters with a great length of flavour.

2009 Staete Landt Estate Grown Viognier

One thing you can be guaranteed with this boutique Kiwi winemaker are wines that are unique. The philosophy is to create wines that are complex and textured showing an individuality that can only come from a special single vineyard in Marlborough. If you love Viognier then this is your dream drop, it has peach and apricot aromas as well as some developed vanilla before an unctuous and textured palate of grapefruit and oak. A wine that sings with food especially fish dishes with creamy sauces.

2009 Staete Landt Estate Grown Marlborough Sauvignon

The 2009 Staete Landt sauvignon blanc is intensely aromatic with rose petals, orangeblossom and tropical fruit characters. In the mouth a soft velvety texture with abundant nectarines and crisp granny smiths, chalky/slaty characters and a round and elegant mineral finish. This wine is drinking well from now onwards but will increase in complexity and reward cellaring for up to 5 years. Staete Landt Awards & Accolades "This very subtle and satisfying wine was grown at Rapaura and partly barrel-fermented. Bone dry, it is fleshy, with rich, ripe, tropical flavours, crisp and lively, and excellent drive, immediacy and punch." 5 stars - Michael Cooper, Winestate Magazine, April 2010 "Lig...

2009 Staete Landt Estate Grown Pinot Gris

This wine is a lovely example of what the varietal can show. It is full round and ripe in the mouth with a grainy texture and soft nutty complexity showing notes of quince and ripe pears. It has excellent length and roundness of flavour. This wine is very approachable whilst young but will gain complexity over the next five years. Staete Landt Awards & Accolades "This is a single-vineyard Pinot Gris in the off-dry style that New Zealand Pinot Gris seems to be defining as its signature. The fruit is plush and luscious with lovely aromatics and good complexity, and it's balanced by the clean acidity needed to offset the potential sweetness. This is an excellent choice for all kinds of s...

Staete Landt Wines

This is an exciting new discovery it's a beautiful wine, smelling of fragrant herbs, salad and gooseberries, with a hint of cedar. The grapes were nice and ripe. The taste is powerful and layered; the finish is long and properly dry. A smashing debut. Try it with steamed prawns and vegetables with beurre blanc.

Staete Landt Wines

This small operation has a prime piece of Marlborough real estate and works with attention to detail. No surprise then that the wine is excellent! There are fragrant, savoury minerals driving the nose; the palate has charming texture and rich tropical fruit flavours, a flinty, smoky finish.

Aromas of sour cherries and redcurrants and a well-focused, gamey palate showing some powerful tannins.

A light strawberry- and cherry-scented pinot with plenty of fresh fruit fragrance and a serve of punchy oak. The palate confirms the oak's assertive presence; quite chewy cherry-flavoured tannins here.
