Established in 1991, Stefano Lubiana produces premium cool climate wines from his Tasmanian vineyard site just north of Hobart on the Derwent River. Burgundian varieties are hallmark, but sparkling wine production has also established Steve Lubiana as a force to be reckoned with in Australian premium wine circles.
Stefano Lubiana Location
Stefano Lubiana winery is located on the Derwent River in Granton, 20 kilometres north of Hobart in Tasmania. The vineyard was initially planted to Chardonnay and Pinot Noir but further plantings have included Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Riesling and Nebbiolo. This is a cold climate site with maritime influence and excellent soil profiles for grape growing.
Stefano Lubiana Wine Styles
Sparkling wine is at a pinnacle from Steve Lubiana, with his 1995 Prestige a landmark wine in Australia for quality, late disgorgement and complexity. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are also benchmarking for style and quality but Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling and Pinot Grigio are not far behind, presenting very appealing aromatics and high drinkability.

A modern winemaking facility helps process up to 300 tonnes of fruit during harvest time, and winemaker Steve Lubiana is constantly seeking and exploring innovations to add additional complexity and depth to his wines. He experiments with yeasts, whole bunch fermentation and utilises temperature control to allow better management of fermentation.
