Established in 1985 in Langhorne Creek, South Australia, Step Road pride themselves on making wines that display regional and varietal character. They are also into running the winery and vineyards in a sustainable manner by recycling water and winery waste back into the vineyards.

Sourcing fruit mainly from Adelaide Hills, Langhorne Creek, McLaren Vale, Step Road makes wines under three tiers: Step Road, Black Wing and First Step. As a company, they also produce wines under the Beresford, Crystal Brook, Katherine Hills and Trig Point labels with fruit from various other South Australian regions.

Winemaker Justin Coates has been at Step Road since 2001. He also has on call one of Australia’s best winemakers in Steve Pannell who consults to Step Road. Justin’s philosophy is simple – he sees himself as a caretaker of the fruit and tries not to interfere too much. Style wise the wines range from fun, fruity and affordable under the Crystal Brook label through to the more serious dark berry and mocha Step Road Cabernet Sauvignon.
