Turkey Flat owns five vineyards spread over a 20km radius. They cover four very different sub regions, with the ability to blend the attributes of each district into the wines. The old vine vineyards yield intensely concentrated fruit that is characteristic of the Turkey Flat style. Turkey Flat is recognised for their expressive signature Shiraz and vibrant rose style.
Peter Schulz is a fourth generation vigneron who made the transition from grape growing to winemaking. His winemaking philosophy is based largely on the vineyard. He keeps the process simple by employing traditional techniques to ensure there is no interference with the expression of the vineyard.
Turkey Flat was named for the wild bush turkeys who once roamed the banks of Tanunda Creek.
Turkey Flat Location & History
Turkey Flat is located in South Australia’s famous Barossa Valley. It is a family business that forms a vital part of the region’s rich cultural heritage. Pioneering Silesian settler, Johann Friedrich August Fiedler planted Turkey Flat’s first Shiraz vines in 1847. The land was later bought by Gottlieb Ernst Schulz in 1865. The successful butcher established a thriving retail business among the vines. His historic bluestone butchers shop has been transformed into today’s cellar door at the heart of the Turkey Flat.
