In 1891 the first vineyards were planted by John Riddoch as the readily identifiable triple-gabled winery was being constructed. Wynns is known for its premium red wine making from the region, though white wines have been improved in recent years. Sue Hodder as chief winemaker has produced consistently excellent wines under the Wynns label, bringing the standard of wine making up over the past decade.

Wynns Coonawarra occupies prime vineyard land in the Coonawarra wine-growing region of South Australia. The primary vineyards are some of the largest and oldest in Coonawarra; it is estimated that Wynns Coonawarra owns approximately 70% of all the Terra Rossa soil planted vineyard areas currently under vine.
Wynns Coonawarra Wine Styles
Cabernet, Shiraz, Cabernet Shiraz dominant blends, Chardonnay and Riesling are the focus of the winemaking team. The limited release, premium wines of Michael Shiraz and John Riddoch Cabernet Sauvignon are considered Australian benchmarks for Coonawarra reserve wines.
