It seems fitting, not to mention hilarious, when you visit the Yealands website and are greeted by the sound of bleating sheep. How New Zealand is that! However, this is the essence of Yealands Estate. Founded by Peter Yealands, their catch cry is ‘For the love of the land’. They are proud of the fact they go the extra mile to be environmentally friendly and have gained a carbon zero rating.
Located in the Awatere foothills of the Marlborough region, they only make wine from their four estate vineyards planted to the Marlborough stalwart Sauvignon Blanc, as well as Pinot Gris, Riesling, Viognier, Tempranillo and Pinot Noir.
Chief Winemaker Tamra Washington is a Marlborough native, but she travelled the planet as a flying winemaker for several years before making her home at Yealands. She crafts wines from the cool climate fruit that are intense, textural and varietally expressive as well as feel-good.
