Sustainable has become a buzzword for many wineries and Peter Yealand was responsible for the first sustainable winery of its kind in New Zealand. Far from being some kind of grass smoking, tree hugging idealistic way of making wine, it’s a way of farming sensible and reducing the risk to the environment. Classic Savvy characters here of grapefruit and guava with a mineral edge before a refreshing core of citrus acids flood the finish.

Pinosity, no it’s not a dirty word. It’s the word that describes whether a Pinot Noir is varietal or not and we look for it in every Pinot we taste. That’s because we are pinot-philes (now that’s a dirty word). Central Otago is leading the charge from a Kiwi perspective and this one from Yealands Estate is rammed with pinosity. It’s bountiful in cherry with nice sappy and savoury notes and a succulent palate. It’s got mushroom risotto written all over it.

Peter Yealands is a lean, green, sustainable machine. More eco-warrior than winemaker everything about the Yealands way tips its hat to the environment with respect. These wines made in the Awatere foothills of Marlborough, New Zealand and are busting with freshness. We want to bring Riesling back to the masses and here’s a good reason why. This is a zingy and dry Riesling with a real tang of lemon and lime. Its crisp and palate cleansing and would really go well with a seafood platter.

This Pinot Gris from New Zealand is just the thing to give Sauvignon Blanc a run for its money and we’re sure you’ll a-gris with us. It’s made by the environmentally conscious Peter Yealands, a man who’s so connected to the sustainable process in the vineyards that he encourages the natives birds to hang out and snack on the grapes. Like all the best Pinot Gris this is richly textured with a slightly oily mouthfeel and flavours of spiced pear and caramel. It’s all the better for being chilled then served with some mild Asian food.

You ask, so we provide, yes its another Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc but this is the real deal from one an exciting boutique winery in the Awatere foothills. Peter Yealands employs the best sustainable practices to really ensure that mother earth delivers back to him what he invests in her. What you’d expect from the region, bursting with passionfruit and guava with crunchy, fresh acids on the long finish. Goats Cheese pizza would create palate harmony with this sav-tacular wine.

The 2009 Yealands Way Sauvignon Blanc 2009 shows lifted blackcurrant notes underpinned by guava and fresh herbal aromas. The palate is full and structured and exudes fresh herbs, nettle and a long, mineral finish.

Intense aromatic notes of ginger and lychee on the nose, exhibiting notes of spice and rose petal on the palate with a refreshingly dry finish.

The Yealands Estate Pinot Noir 2009 shows lifted aromas of violets, red berries and spice. The palate is refined with plum notes and complemented by silky tannins and a long savoury finish.

This wine is brimming with concentrated notes of poached pears and melon, with underlying flavours of quince and a touch of ginger.

Lifted pear drop and shortcake aromas. The wine bursts with fresh apple and pear flavours, is soft and supple and finishes with finely balanced acidity providing a fine backbone to the wine.

This wine exhibits lifted lemon and lime and honeysuckle characters with a hint of elderflower. The palate exudes citrus zest and lush mid palate weight balanced beautifully with focused acidity on the finish.

Intense lifted mineral and fresh herb characters on the nose. The palate is well structured and elegant; intense mineral characters, with layers of blackcurrant, nettle and wet stone with a lingering zesty citrus finish.
