AC/DC release wine range

Ageing rockers AC/DC have this week followed the trend of ageing rockers and committed there name to a range of wines, with the wines exclusively produced by Warburn wines and carrying such catchy names as 'Hells Bells' Sauvignon Blanc and Back in Black Shiraz.

Now call us skeptics but here at Cracka we find this cashing on the band's name just a little bit dubious, particularly given the reputation of Warburn tending largely towards simple budget wines. We haven't seen the wines yet, and can't really comment until we do, but all we can think about is how average the Shane Warne wines were to use as benchmarks.

It's the perfect excuse to have that extra glass of red wine and spoonful of chocolate dessert - research has shown that ingredients in both might make you brainier.

Like chocolate? Like wine? It seems you're in luck. Candy is dandy, but chocolate wine really seems to get taste buds in an uproar.

It's a common fantasy among wine lovers: What would you do if you owned a winery? We've all watched one or another winery succeed, stumble and succeed again as it marched toward ultimate acclaim. Too often, however, the progression turns out to be more of a limp toward mediocrity. Inevitably, we think, "I could do better than that."

For most of my adult life, I’ve kept it a secret. Only a few family members and close friends knew the truth. I suppose I was ashamed. But after celebrating my 50th birthday last spring, I decided it was time to come out of the closet. Or rather, out of the box.

Have I ever felt the need at Christmas for Prozac, sleeping pills, or the mass of over-the-counter medication? The answer: a definitive no! But I always enjoy a relaxing pre-dinner drink at the end of the day.

WINE buying has long been considered a male domain. Walk into a fine restaurant and the wine waiter is likely to hand the wine list to the male diner before the female.

The right varieties in the right regions help the Kiwis stay a step ahead of Australian wines. Those pesky Kiwis have done it again. They have trounced us in the Tri Nations. Not at rugby but wine.

If you like drinking wine half as much as you enjoy cricket, Australia is a brilliant place to follow a cricket tour. Australia's winemakers are second to none when it comes to welcoming visitors into their vineyards and cellars.

Back in 1987, when Australia last lost the Ashes on its own soil and the rest of us were just beginning to discover the delights of Aussie chardonnay and shiraz, a group of Englishmen already knew all about them. England's cricket and rugby teams had regularly toured Australia and happily accepted invitations to visit vineyards and enjoy their bottles. Every Test in Adelaide, for example, was preceded by a trip to Geoff Merrill's nearby winery in the McLaren Vale.
