Venturing South one truly great region stands out and that is of course Jerez, maker of much undervalued fortified Sherry. In Jerez a range of styles from dry and delicate Manzanilla and Fino to the fuller and nutty Amontillado and Oloroso are found, all made from the Palomino grape. There is also the unctuous and sweet Pedro Ximénez, which makes superb sweet styles.
Also in Southern Spain a number of regions regularly create hearty red wines, often from Tempranillo. These regions include Jumilla, Yecla and Valdepenas with wines from the nearby La Mancha tending towards a lighter bodied style.
