Red - Mourvedre

The mourvedre grape variety is native to Spain where it is known as monastrell. It is also common in the southern French regions of Rhone Valley, Provence and Bandol as well as California in the USA. Referred to as mataro in Australia, is prevalent in the Barossa Valley and New South Wales. Mourvedre is a deeply coloured grape that is high in acid, alcohol and tannin. For this reason, it makes a prized blending component and is often seen together with grenache and shiraz. As a single varietal it makes a powerful wine with rich blackberry fruits, earthy elements and high astringency.
