Red - Tempranillo

Tempranillo is the great Spanish red, famously featuring in the long lived wines of Rioja. It is an important variety in Portugal and emerging as a trendy variety in new world countries including Australia and the USA.

Tempranillo is a thick skinned grape that tolerates warm weather. It is being increasingly planted to address the challenge of a changing climate. Classic tempranillo produces full bodied, purple wines with dark cherry, plum and earthy flavours. It can be made in a range of styles and is often blended with grenache to make a juicy, medium weight and aromatic wine.
