White - Marsanne
While marsanne is likely to have originated in the France’s Rhone Valley, Australia can lay claim to some of the oldest marsanne vineyards in the world. Victorian winery, Tahbilk is credited with the world’s largest single holding of the variety and plantings dating back to the 1860s.
Marsanne makes a full bodied wine of great ageing potential and is often blended with rousanne in its native home. The variety shows lemon, peach and baked apple characters that evolve into nutty, honeysuckle flavours as it evolves. It is a food friendly, alternative variety that holds a lot of interest.
