Sexy, sleek and sometimes savoury, Sangiovese has come of age in Australia and has found a comfortable home in Mudgee. The Montrose vineyards were the first to be planted back in the 70’s by a couple of wine-loving Italians Their vision paid off as alternative varieties have really give Mudgee a fine reputation. Pietra is the Italian for stone and this wine lies on quartz and limestone imparting a complex minerality. The wine is full of bright, savoury fruit, with crisp acids and soft tannins that make it a must for pasta and meatballs.
Typically bright, fresh fruit and soft tannins backed by crisp acidity - a hallmark of the variety.
Bright fresh fruit some dried herbs gentle tannins giving a superb texture and lovely savoury characters.

We thought last year's inaugural release was overpriced, but this year's release is a serious step up in quality. If you have a passion for sangiovese, you'll love it. It has all the dry, leathery, tangy characters that sangio lovers seek. It tastes of sweet-sour cherries and lots and lots of cracked, red earth (we promise, it does), and it hums with mouth-drying, almost gamey, nutty tannin. Oak is present but unobtrusive, and it finishes with a satisfying bite of flavour.
